HONOLULU CITY LIGHTS OPENING NIGHT

TREE LIGHTING, PARADE AND CONCERT SCHEDULE

 

CITY TREE AND PARADE 2006

 

Honolulu City Lights opens on the first Saturday of December with the lighting of the City and County of Honolulu's 50-foot tree. The opening night celebration in front of historic Honolulu Hale kicks of the month-long holiday display of trees, wreaths, oversize sculptures, and the iconic Shaka Santa lounging at City Hall's fountain with Tutu Mele.

 

In addition to the tree lighting ceremony, the evening is highlighted with the Public Workers Electric Light Parade and a star-studded holiday concert on the grounds of the Frank F. Fasi Civic Center grounds.  The family friendly event includes food booths and a visit with Santa Claus.

 

 

4 p.m.

  • Food booths, t-shirt and souvenir vendors open for business on the Fasi Civic Center grounds.  Souvenir T-shirts and ornaments available for purchase at the booth in front of the Mission Memorial Building (red brick with white columns) on King Street.

 

6 p.m.

  • Tree lighting ceremony in front of Honolulu Hale featuring a musical performance by The Brothers Cazimero.
  • The Public Workers Electric Light Parade starts at River Street and proceeds down King Street

 

6:30 p.m.

  • The Mayor and invited guests light the 50-foot City tree, kicking off the illumination of lights on trees and buildings in Downtown and  Chinatown.
  • The decorated tree display in the Honolulu Hale Courtyard and the wreath contest exhibit in Lane Gallery officially opens.

 

7:45 p.m.

  • Holiday concert at the Sky Gate Stage begins featuring Makua Rothman, NIX Performing Arts, Robi Kahakalau, and Henry Kapono.
  • Electric Light Parade vehicles will park on King Street between Kawaiaha`o and Alapa`i Streets until 8:15 p.m. for people to see them up close.
