Mayor to host birthday celebration honoring the life of U.S. Senator Daniel K. Inouye
Honolulu Civic Center – Mayor Kirk Caldwell will host a celebration of the life and legacy of Daniel K. Inouye this Saturday on what would have been the late U.S. Senator's 89th birthday.
A'ole po'ina 'ole ia 'oe (You will never be forgotten), Hawaii Remembers Senator Daniel K. Inouye, will take place September 7th at 4 p.m. on the Honolulu Civil Center grounds next to Honolulu Hale.
The Senator's widow Irene Hirano Inouye and his former Chief of Staff Jennifer Goto Sabas will speak.
The band Ho'okena will perform and play the Senator's favorite song, Kaimana Hila, with hula performed by Nani.

Zippy's is donating one of the Senator's favorite foods, chili with spam musubi, for everyone!
The event is free and open to the public.
The celebration will be televised LIVE on Ôlelo channel 49 from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m., hosted by Mahealani Richardson. The program will be rebroadcast on the following schedule: Friday, September 27th at 8 p.m. on ch. 55; Monday, September 30th at 10 p.m. on ch. 55, Tuesday October 1st at 2 p.m. on ch. 49, and Tuesday, October 8th at 8 a.m. on ch. 49.
The event is sponsored by the City & County of Honolulu Mayor's Office on Culture and the Arts.
Medal of Honor and Presidential Medal of Freedom recipient Senator Daniel K. Inouye passed away on December 17th, 2012 after serving Hawai'i in Congress for over 54 years. He was born on September 7th, 1924.
