SPECIAL PROJECTS/PROJECT CONTROL DIVISION

PROJECT CONTROL AND CONTRACT MANAGEMENT
Provides information management and control of Capitol Improvement Program (CIP) projects, including managing the CIP tracking and reporting system and project schedules, monitoring and directing use of capital funds, coordinating consultant selections for the City, and coordinating the annual capital budget initiative with other City client agencies and BFS.

SPECIAL PROJECTS
Provides project management services for complex and exceptional construction projects.

The Special Projects group is tasked with the implementation of high-profile CIP projects or CIP projects demanding integrated, multi-disciplinary, and creative approaches to address design issues and budget constraints.  As a result, this group may undertake a variety of project types rather than being regulated to perform a specific type of project, such as parks, roads, etc.

Special Projects consists of one full-time architect, one personal services contract engineer, and one personal services contract clerk.  In general, projects are managed from start to completion instead of proceeding from a Planning Branch to a Design Branch and, finally, to a Construction Management Branch.

This past year, Special Projects was involved in the planning, design, and construction of city facilities such as street improvements, park ball fields and courts, park comfort stations, repair of community signs, community master plans, facility assessments, and urban design studies.
