Person with a Disability Bus Pass

Any person with a physical or mental impairment that substantially limits one or more of the major life activities as outlined below and due to such impairment is unable to do one or more of the following functions necessary to effectively use the City bus system's facilities without significant difficulty:

• negotiating a flight of stairs, escalator, or ramp;
  
• boarding or alighting from a City transit bus;
  
• using the City Transit bus due to confusion or disorientation;
  
• reading informational signs; or
  
• walking more than 200 feet.
  

Disabled person bus passes are issued to persons meeting one of the following
conditions:

• if you are under age 65 and present a valid MEDICARE card issued by the Social Security Administration pursuant to title II or title XVIII of the social security act, 42 U.S.C., 401, et seq. and 42 U.S.C. 1395, et seq.; or
  
• if your application is properly completed and certified by a licensed medical physician and approved by the Department of Transportation Services (DTS) staff; or
  
• if your disability is readily observable.
  

COST

If your disability has been certified by a licensed medical physician as being permanent, or you present a MEDICARE card you will have the choice of a one-year bus pass for unlimited rides for a cost of $30.00 or you may use your Medicare card or if you don't have one purchase a four-year Reduced Fare ID card for $10.00 and ride TheBus for one-half the adult fare or purchase a monthly pass for $5.00 each month.

If your disability has been certified as temporary, and certified by a licensed medical physician as proof of disability. You will be informed of the cost of your temporary bus pass that will be computed on a prorated basis (estimate: $ 2.50 per month).

There is a processing charge of $10.00 for any replacement bus pass or Reduced Fare ID card requested. Replacement bus passes and ID cards shall be valid only for the time period remaining on the originally issued bus pass or ID card; therefore, the disabled individual may choose to reapply for a new person with a disability bus pass or Reduced Fare ID card
