Aloha & Welcome

Aloha and welcome to the home page of the City and County of Honolulu's Department of Transportation Services (DTS).

A Message From Our Director

The people at DTS are dedicated to Oahu's transportation needs.  Our work is reflected not only in visible accomplishments, but also everyday efforts that make this city a special place to live and work. We at the Department of Transportation Services are excited about the remarkable endeavors we are doing for the people of O'ahu.  Our department is a multi-faceted branch of City government involved with "multi-modal" movement of people and goods within the City and County of Honolulu.
Our responsibilities involve not only roadways but, public transit systems, bicycle/pedestrian facilities, traffic control systems, traffic safety, rules and regulations of city owned streets and roadways, but also the design and construction of transportation facilities. To say that we at DTS do this under challenging circumstances would be an under-statement. We provide these services to the citizens of Honolulu while also under great budgetary uncertainties. We have great things in-store for the people of Honolulu. Bus transit centers are being built around the island to make commuting via public-transit more efficient, safe, and economical.

New transit centers are online for Alapai & King Street, Wahiawa, and Middle Street in Kalihi.   We continue to modernize our bus fleet (vehicles that are eco-friendly, quiet, and reliable).  We are systematically conducting major roadway construction improvements, traffic engineering enhancements, Para-transit operation improvements, and public outreach.  We maintain and grow our relationships with our transportation partners for both governmental and non-governmental entities.   Finally we are vigorously evaluating how to best utilize limited resources on the needs of this community.

We will continue to work tirelessly on your behalf to keep City & County of Honolulu's transportation system the best in the nation.

A hui Hou.
