Advisory Opinion No. 153
The question is whether a newly hired attorney may complete legal cases from his prior private practice. The attorney indicated on his form CC-8 that he is completing legal cases from his previous practice spending one to two hours per week on this activity and that he teaches legal research or litigation three hours per week at a community college during the school year.
Regarding law practice by a member of the Office of Counsel Services, the Ethics Commission [Commission] addressed this issue in Advisory Opinion No. 146. Regarding the outside employment as a teacher, the Commission finds no incompatibility between this outside employment and his City employment.
