In addition to preventing and fighting fires, the Honolulu Fire Department (HFD) responds to emergency medical incidents, hazardous materials spills and leaks, and land and sea search and rescues.
On this page, HFD personnel demonstrate the use of a personal watercraft (PWC) to accomplish an ocean rescue. The techniques shown here follow methods pioneered by Ocean Safety Lifeguards.
The PWC, rescue sleds, and trailer are housed at the Ewa Beach, Hawaii Kai, Kaaawa, Kailua, Kapolei, Waialua, Waianae, and Waimanalo fire stations.
