New Tropical Tour of Foster Botanical Garden

             Come and enjoy a guided walk with Docent Craig Ball.  Each month's tour will explore trees from different geological

             regions of the tropics.

Docent Training             

             Learn the names and interesting facts about the trees in Foster Botanical Garden.  Share your knowledge with 

             visitors and children.  Classes will be held on Tuesday afternoons, 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.  Supply fee of $25.00

             which is reimbursed after 12 hours of volunteering.

HO`OMALUHIA BOTANICAL GARDEN

 

 

 Family Fishing at Ho`omaluhia Botanical Garden

               Come with your family to fish and enjoy the outdoors at Ho`omaluhia Botanical Garden.  This catch and release program

               is fun for everyone.  Recommended:  walking shoes, insect repellent, rain gear,  fishing bait (fresh white bread) and

               barb-less hooks.

               There istwenty (20) minute hike to the fishing area.

               When:   Saturdays and Sundays                        Time:  10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m.

Botanical Drawing and Painting Sessions - Self Directed

               Actual renderings of plants, flowers, seeds and pods from the garden.  Bring supplies:  #4 round brush, Bristol paper

               and quality watercolor set, or watercolor pencils.  Some experience in watercolor & drawing helpful. 

               When:  Wednesdays                                           Time:  9:30 a.m. to 12:00 noon.

Preschool Nature Walk

               Sessions will include reading stories, a nature craft and a garden walk.  Bring a lunch and stay for a picnic.  Walking

Keiki Fishing Derby

               Celebrate National Fishing Week on June 2, 2012 with a Keiki Fishing Derby for ages 4 to 17.  Prizes will be awarded 

               in three age categories:  youth 4 to 7, youth 8 to 12 and teens 13 to 17.  The event categories are:  1) Longest Fish

               over 7"  2) Most Midas Cichlids and 3)  Most unusual catch.  Fishing is on a catch and release basis, line in the water,

               no casting.

Narcissus Bulb Carving

             Come and learn how to carve a Narcissus Flower Bulb for Chinese New Year.  A carving knife and a bulb will be

Foster Botanical Garden:  Aloha Ambassador

Do you love plants/trees?  Do you love talking with people from all over the world?  Do you love sharing your knowledge of Hawaii with visitors?  If you answered yes to these questions and are a person who is full of the Aloha Spirit, Foster Botanical Garden has a volunteer position perfect for you.  Duties include:  welcoming visitors to the garden, handing out garden brochures and orienting visitors to the garden.  We are looking for volunteers on Friday afternoons, Saturday and Sunday mornings.  Phone:  522-7064 for more information.
