TRAFFIC CHANGES DURING THE ADB WATCH MARCH, May 9 The city has announced the following traffic restrictions and detours for motorists during the ADB Watch March on May 9: 1. From 12 noon to 12:15 p.m., the ADB Watch Marchers will cross Ala Moana Boulevard from Ala Moana Park to Atkinson Drive. Traffic will be stopped in both directions. No detours will be established. 2. From approximately 12:15 p.m. to 1:15 p.m., all traffic, except for emergency vehicles, will be prohibited on: The following detours will be established: 3. From approximately 1:15 p.m. to 1:30 p.m., all traffic on Kalakaua Avenue will be prohibited between Fern Street and Waikiki as the March proceeds to Kapiolani Park. 4. After 1:30 p.m., traffic heading into Waikiki will be detoured onto Kuhio Avenue. The police will progressively close and then re-open side streets as the March proceeds and traffic can return safely.
During the Asian Development Bank Conference at the Hawaii Convention Center May 7-11, 2001, TheBus may be required to detour service. All service that operates in the vicinity of the Hawaii Convention Center will operate on regular routes as much as possible. If detours become necessary, the following routes will be affected: A (CityExpress! UH-Waipahu); B (CityExpress! Waikiki-School/Middle Street); 2 (Waikiki-Kalihi Transit Center); 3 (Kaimuki-Pearl Harbor); 9 (Palolo-Downtown) and 13 (Waikiki-Liliha). These routes will be detoured via Kaheka, King and McCully Streets eastbound and McCully, Beretania and Keeaumoku Streets westbound. Additional routes will be affected during a scheduled march on Atkinson Street, Kapiolani Boulevard and Kalakaua Avenue Wednesday, May 9, 2001. The detours will begin at 11:30 a.m. on May 9, 2001. Service will return to the regular routes as soon as the march ends. In addition to the routes listed above, these routes that serve the makai side of Ala Moana Shopping Center will be affected: C, 6, 8, 11, 12, 19, 20, 40, 40A, 42, 43, 52, 53, 54, 55, 56, 57 and 58. For the duration of the march, service through Waikiki will operate westbound only on Kuhio Avenue. Eastbound service will be detoured via King and Isenberg Streets, Kapiolani Boulevard and Date Street to Kapahulu Avenue. TheBus will have additional supervisors and information staff on duty near the convention center during the meeting. Detour routes will be posted on the affected bus stops.
