News ReleasesJanuary 11, 2001
The Department of Transportation Services has scheduled traffic calming workshops for this month with residents of the communities listed below. The meeting for McCully School Complex, which is the area around Lunalilo Elementary and Washington Intermediate will encourage residents to define problems and solutions. In Kahala, Newtown Estates and Makiki Schools Complex, citizens will review and prioritize preliminary designs based on their input at earlier workshops.
The traffic calming meetings allow citizens to identify problems and propose solutions for traffic safety issues along residential streets in their neighborhoods. This could include construction of street improvements that slow speeding motorists, reduce cut-through traffic, and increase safety for pedestrians, bicyclists, and other street users. In addition, the calming measures offer an opportunity to landscape and beautify the neighborhood.
