April 3, 2001

The Department of Transportation Services will conduct traffic-calming workshops next week for the neighborhoods of Kapunahala, Waialae Iki and Kapahulu.

Traffic calming workshops enable citizens to identify problems and propose solutions to enhance safety in their neighborhoods. Solutions could include constructing improvements that slow speeding motorists, reduce cut-through traffic and increase safety for pedestrians, bicyclists and other non-motorized street users. There is also the opportunity to landscape and beautify the neighborhood.

The upcoming workshops are as follows:

Kapunahala workshop (focusing on Keneke Street): April 11 (Wednesday), 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Kaneohe District Park Craft Room, 45-660 Keaahala Rd.

Waialae Iki workshop (focusing on Laukahi Street): April 12 (Thursday), 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Aina Haina Public Library, 5246 Kalanianaole Hwy.

Kapahulu workshop (focusing on the area between Kapahulu Avenue, Diamond Head Road, Alohea Street and Mooheau Street): April 17 (Tuesday), 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at Thomas Jefferson Elementary School, 324 Kapahulu Ave.
