DRIVERS LICENSE CHANGES CAUSING COMPUTER WOES
The Department of Customer Services, Driver License Branch, reminds Hawaii drivers that they do not have to rush out to obtain new drivers license to comply with a recent bill implementing a change from social security numbers to random eight-digit numbers. According to Motor Vehicle, Licensing and Permits Division Administrator Dennis Kamimura, changing your driver license is not mandatory at this time and drivers should simply wait until their drivers license renewal date, when a new number will be automatically reassigned. Kamimura noted that the volume of people requesting new licenses has impacted the city's computer system. Driver license clerks have been inundated with people requesting a license change since the media first reported that the city would making the switch to random numbers.
