Ho'omaluhia Botanical Gardens is expanding the hours of its popular catch and release fishing program, Family Fishing Days. Fishing is now allowed every weekend from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the popular park in Kaneohe.

Participants are encouraged to bring the entire family for a fun and relaxing outing, fish for fresh tilapia and release your catch back into the lake at the foot of the majestic Ko'olau mountains.

As with most Department of Parks and Recreation-sponsored programs, Family Fishing Days is free. Come prepared with hand-held poles, small barbless hooks, bait and buckets. Walking shoes, insect repellent, light raingear and a picnic lunch are recommended.

Please call 233-7323 for further information. Parking, restrooms and drinking water are located at the Visitor Center. Walking time to the fishing area is about 20 minutes over a scenic garden pathway _ follow the red fish signs.
