FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – November 26, 2001 CHRISTMAS HOOLAULEA IN HALE’IWA The merchants of Hale'iwa are planning a day of activities and celebration on December 8 to kick-off the holiday season. To start the celebration, Mayor Jeremy Harris will break ground for the long-planned beautification project of the roundabout Weed Circle (named after the Weed family) and Hale'iwa Town. The special day will feature: *The blessing of the beautification project by Kumu Betty Jenkins at 10 a.m. at the roundabout (the gateway and first exit to Hale'iwa from Honolulu). The project is sponsored by the North Shore Outdoor Circle and Haleiwa Main Street. *A Christmas parade, immediately following the blessing at approximately 10:30 a.m., which will start from the Weed Circle roundabout with Mr. and Mrs. Claus, floats and bands, and end at Haleiwa Beach Park. *Entertainment on three stages in Hale'iwa. Each will have live music and personal appearances by top athletes in surfing, skating and jiu-jitsu.The athletes will include Kelly Slater, Danny Way and Victor Belford among others. *A map and walking tour flyer with a list of events will be available from merchants. *Children's activities that include a petting zoo, face painting and "jumpers". *Prizes from drawings held thoughout the day. Merchants will give out entry forms for the drawing. One or more entries will be given out for a certain amount spent in their store. *Big name music bands. *Check the Hale'iwa Main Street web site for other planned activities and the time of the activities. http://haleiwamainstreet.com In addition to the Ho’olaule’a, Epic Sports will be holding its grand opening starting 5:30 PM with a fashion show, concert and other events. Come find the "Aloha Spirit" in Historic Hale'iwa, Saturday, December 8 from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm. A great day of fun is planned for Hale'iwa Christmas Ho'olaule'a (not to mention great shopping for your Christmas gift list!)
