Mayor Jeremy Harris and the University of Hawaii Athletic Deparatment are inviting the public to a “Tribute to Heroes” at the soccer game October 21 between the University of Hawaii and Southern Methodist University.

The special event is to pay tribute to those who gave their lives during the tragic events of September 11 and to honor our Honolulu fire, police and emergency medical services personnel, according to the mayor.

“As we return to our normal lives, we must never forget the people who sacrificed themselves while saving others in the terrorist attack,” Mayor Harris said. “We must also recognize and appreciate the men and women of our city who put their lives on the line every day to protect the public.”

The “Tribute to Heroes” ceremony will begin at 4 p.m. Honolulu Police Chief Lee Donohue, Fire Chief Attilio Leonardi and the mayor are scheduled to speak. The soccer game will begin at 5 p.m. There will be a special appearance at halftime by two New York City firefighters, Tom Marducci and Kevin Seaman.

The tribute and game will be held at the Waipio Soccer Complex.
