Mayor Jeremy Harris conferred upon native Hawaiian Danny “Kaneala” Kaleikini, the title of “Ambassador of Aloha” for the City and County of Honolulu today.
“Danny embodies the spirit of aloha and through his extraordinary talent and communication skills has shared this gift of the islands with international audiences for more than 30 years,” said mayor Harris.
Since his retirement in 1995 after a 30-year run at the Kahala Hilton, Danny has been active entertaining locally and in Japan, restoring the Kahaluu Fishpond, developing the commercially successful Aloha Ke Akua Wedding Chapel, and serving on numerous charitable organizations, raising nearly $450,000 for local charities.
Kaleikini was named Honorary Mayor of Honolulu in 1994 and Ambassador of Aloha by the State of Hawaii in 1998.
The City Charter authorizes the mayor to: “Appoint a personal representative who shall, subject to the mayor's direction, perform such ceremonial functions of the mayor's office and such other duties as the mayor may designate.”
