Honolulu News

MARCH 19, 2001

Honolulu Mayor Jeremy Harris is returning to the radio airwaves this month with a fresh new format - including appearances by key department heads and special guests. The fast-paced show returns March 20 to KGU Radio 760-AM, where it will hold the Monday to Friday 5:00 to 6:00 p.m. drive-time slot.

Since 1994, Honolulu citizens and visitors to Oahu have enjoyed a remarkable level of access to the Mayor on his live, unedited radio call-in program, “Ask the Mayor.” He prides himself on his command of the details on an exhaustive array of city programs, policy and personnel.

Mayor Harris clearly enjoys both the spontaneity of the program and the chance it gives him to connect directly with Oahu's citizens. He calls the program's regular listeners and callers his “eyes and ears” and points out that many times it's average citizens who bring city problems and maintenance needs to his attention.

“Ask the Mayor” will continue to provide information on city programs and as a complaint hot-line for repairs and problems. But the new format is designed to allow the Mayor, his guests and his callers to engage in more in-depth discussion of the issues that face our city and state and potential solutions to challenges in government and communities throughout Oahu.
