LEI QUEEN APPLICATIONS ACCEPTED THIS MONTH
Applications for the 2001 ALei Queen@ contest sponsored by the Department of Parks and Recreation are now available at all Satellite City Halls and recreation centers throughout Oahu.
This year's theme is, Na Wahine Makua (Adult Woman). Women between the ages of 31 and 54 years of age are eligible to compete. Contestants must have knowledge of Hawaiian lei making and hula.
The deadline for applications is February 21.
All contestants are required to attend an orientation meeting at McCoy Pavilion on Wednesday, February 21, at 7 p.m. Applications may be submitted at the time of the orientation meeting.
The Lei Queen will be announced at a special ceremony at McCoy Pavilion, Ala Moana Beach Park on Saturday, March 3. She and her court will star in the annual Lei Day celebration on May 1.
