The Department of Parks and Recreation will offer a free Hawaiian Lei- Making Workshop on Thursday, April 5, from 8:30 a.m. to 12 noon at the Waimanalo District Park on Hihimanu Street.
Step-by-step techniques for crafting hili, haku, wili, humupapa, kui and kipu'u leis will be demonstrated at the annual workshop designed to foster wider community participation in the city's Lei Day Celebration.
Persons interested in learning the traditional methods of lei-making are asked to bring their own materials, such as green foliage, flowers with three-inch long stems, raffia, and clippers or scissors.
