FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE – October 22, 2001 Mayor Jeremy Harris will participate in a tree-planting ceremony to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Honolulu Lions Club on Friday (Oct. 26), 11:00 a.m. at Magic Island, Ala Moana Beach Park. Joining in the ceremony will be individuals from Japan representing the Hiroshima, Osaka-Minami, Kurashiki-Achi and Higashi-Osaka Nishi Lions Clubs. The planting of the monkeypod tree is intended to symbolize hope for world peace and friendship among all people. In honor of this occasion, the Lions will unveil a bronze plaque imbedded in a concrete apron near the tree. Two Victorian-style benches also are being presented as gifts from the Lions Clubs to beautify and enhance the use of the popular urban park. ### |
