News Releases

JUNE 28, 2001

At 9:25 a.m., Sunday, July 1, Mayor Jeremy Harris, who has been on the mainland, will sound an air horn at the Royal Kunia Park and Ride Facility, corner of Kupuna Loop and Kupuohi Street, officially opening the Royal Kunia People's Open Market.

Prior to the Royal Kunia grand opening, the city will launch the Kapolei Open Market, from 7 to 8:30 a.m., at the Kapolei Community Park, 91-1049 Kamaaha Loop. “The growing communities of Kapolei and Royal Kunia have waited patiently for their own open air markets and we're pleased to add these two sites to our program,” Mayor Harris will say.

The Kapolei site will be open every Sunday from 7 _ 8:30 a.m. The Royal Kunia market will be open Sundays from 9:30 a.m. to 12 noon. The market sites were selected from numerous requests from residents of several Oahu communities and will be the only open market sites held on Sundays. There are now 24 Department of Parks and Recreation-sponsored open market sites on the island. Independent vendors sell produce and other merchandise seven days a week at city-owned sites and under guidelines set by the department.
