TWO MCCULLY AREA PARKS TO CLOSE AT NIGHT

The Department of Parks and Recreation has announced that effective immediately the Ala Wai Neighborhood Park and Old Stadium Park will close every night from 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.

Both parks have been subjected to increased incidents of vandalism, noise disturbances and property damage in recent months. With the posting of signs indicating the 10:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. closure, the public is warned to stay out of these parks during the prohibited hours. Trespassers found by police officers will be directed to leave the park.

In 1990, the City Council passed the ordinance permitting night closure of parks. To date, the department has designated 101 parks to be closed at night. The restricted hours have helped to reduce costly damage, end disturbances, curtail illegal activities and create a safer environment for the community.
