ROAD WORK, PARADES AND OTHER STREET ACTIVITIES

The departments of Facility Maintenance (FM) and Design & Construction (DC), and the Board of Water Supply (WS) have scheduled the following roadwork for the week of June 24, between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. unless otherwise noted. Estimated completion date is in parentheses.

New Projects:
Starting soon, reconstruction of King Street from Liliha Street to South Street.
Waianae
: Rehabilitation of Mailiili Road and Puhawai Road (Completion by 8/2/01) DC
Continuing Projects:
Haleiwa: Install water lines and equipment along Haleiwa Road, Kaika Place, Nalimu Road, Naoiwi Lane, Niuula Road and Walikanahele Road. (Completion by 6/02) WS
Honolulu: Punchbowl Street Improvements, Phase I: Reconstruct traffic island and relocate traffic signal light poles at Punchbowl Street and Beretania Street intersection. Reconstruct gutter area and resurface and stripe Punchbowl Street between King and Beretania streets. (Completion by 7/01) DC
Phase 3: Widen the diamond head side of Punchbowl Street between Vineyard Boulevard and Lusitania Street. Improvements include new paved parking area, sidewalks, curbs, gutters, curb ramps, drainage system, reconstruct traffic islands, upgrade traffic signal and street light systems, relocate overhead electrical lines to underground and upgrade electrical system, landscaping, traffic signs, striping, markings and markers (Completion by 11/01) DC
Phase 4: Widen both sides of Punchbowl Street between Vineyard Boulevard and Beretania Street. Some of the work is being done at night. (Completion by 7/01) DC

Kahaluu: Install water lines along Kamehameha Highway from Lihikai to Laenani drives and along the two drives. Install fire hydrants along Ahilama Road, Ahuimanu Road, Mapele Place and Road, and Pulama Road. (Completion by 7/01) WS

Kailua: Install water main along Kaha Street and Loop, Kaimake Loop and Kaipiha Street. (Completion by 9/01) WS
Kainui Drive Trunk Sewer will be rehabilitated along Kainui Drive between Oneawa Street and Kalaheo Avenue. (Completion by 10/01) DC
Kaimuki: Reconstructi streets: Install 12 and 8 BWS water mains on Alencastre Street between St. Louis Drive and Felix Street. Reconstruct roadway, curbs, gutters, sidewalks and driveways. Adjust manhole frames andcovers, street monument covers and utility boxes to finish grade. Install street striping and raise pavement markings. (Completion by 2/02) DC
Kaneohe: A 42-inch water main with fire hydrants is being placed along Kahekili Highway from Ahuimanu Road to Haiku Road and from Kulukeoe Street to Likelike Highway, Likelike Highway from Kahekili Highway to Kamehameha Highway. (Completion by 6/8/02) WS
Install water mains along Yacht Club Street, Keoe Way and Place. (Completion by 8/01) WS

Maili: Install water mains Manuaihue Street and Place, Manuoioi Place, Heleuma Street, Okokomo Street and Okohola Street. (Completion by 9/01) WS

Maunawili: Install a 16-inch water main and fire hydrants along Auloa Road from Castle Junction to near Lunaai Street. (Completion by 10/01) WS

Mililani: Construction of new speed humps on Keaolani Street and installation of traffic signs and posts. (Completion by 7/12/ 01) DC

University: Re-stripe and install traffic detectors on Dole Street between University Avenue and East _ West Road. Work delayed by lack of materials. (Completion by 8/31/01) DC

Wahiawa: Moala Place drainage improvements to include adjusting pavement grade along California Avenue and into Moala Place. (Completion by 8/01) DC

Waialua: Install water lines and related equipment along Aikaula, Haona, Kanalu, Kuoha, Naluahi and Nauahi streets and Goodale Avenue. (Start 7/01 and Completion by 6/02) WS

Waianae: Rehabilitation of Mailiili and Puhawai roads. (Completion by 8/2/01) DC

Wilhelmina Rise: Install water mains under Maunahilu Place, Paula Drive, Puumalu Place and Paula Place. (Completion by 9/01) WS


Parades, Walks, Races & Other Street Closures

June 22-24: The Taste of Honolulu at the Civic Center will require prohibiting parking along several sections of Punchbowl and Kings streets bordering the Civic Center. Signs will be posted.

June 30: The JAMBA Juice Mountainman Triathlon will be held starting at 8 a.m. from Waimea Falls Park. Traffic may be stopped on Kamehameha Highway to allow contestants to move from the swim in Waimea Bay to the park for the run and bike portions.
The annual Gay/Lesbian Pride Parade will start at 10 a.m. from Ala Moana Beach Park and enter Ala Moana from the Roosevelt Gates and proceedthrough Waikiki to the Waikiki Shell Parking lot. Mayor Harris has proclaimed June as Gay/Lesbian Pride Month.
