ROAD WORK, PARADES AND OTHER STREET ACTIVITIES

                 The departments of Facility Maintenance (FM) and Design & Construction (DC), and the Board of Water Supply (WS) have scheduled the following roadwork for the week of July23, between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. unless otherwise noted. Estimated completion date is in parentheses.

New Projects:

Aiea:  Rehabilitation of Streets, Unit 11A, Iwaena Street:  Roadway pavement reconstruction and resurfacing.  (Night work)  (Estimated completion date, July 27, 2001).

Mililani:   Rehabilitation of Streets, Unit 12A, Meheula Parkway (Kamehameha Highway to Lanikuhana):  Reconstruction of curbs, gutters, and roadway pavement.  Kuahelani Avenue (Meheula Parkway to Kamehameha Highway):  Reconstruction of curbs, gutter and roadway pavement  (Estimated completion date, January 6, 2002).

Continuing Projects:

Haleiwa: Install water lines and equipment along Haleiwa Road, Kaika Place, Nalimu Road, Naoiwi Lane, Niuula Road and Walikanahele Road. (Completion by 6/02) WS

Honolulu: Punchbowl Street Improvements, Phase I:  Reconstruct traffic island and relocate traffic signal light poles at Punchbowl Street and Beretania Street Intersection.  Reconstruct gutter area and resurface and restripe Punchbowl Street between King Street and Beretania Street.  (Estimated completion date, August 2001).

Phase 3: Widen the diamond head side of Punchbowl Street between Vineyard Boulevard and Lusitania Street. Improvements include new paved parking area, sidewalks, curbs, gutters, curb ramps, drainage system, reconstruct traffic islands,

underground and upgrade electrical system, landscaping, traffic signs, striping, markings and markers (Completion by 11/01) DC

Phase 4: Widen both sides of Punchbowl Street between Vineyard Boulevard and Beretania Street. Some of the work is being done at night. (Completion by 7/01) DC

King Street Improvements, Austin Lane to Desha Lane: Construct curbs, sidewalks, driveways and curb ramps and install new street lighting system and plant street trees. (Estimated completion date, November 2001). DCM

                 Reconstruct King Street from Liliha Street to River Street and Bethel Street to South Street. (The in between segment was done last year.) The North King Street section includes the replacement of a 24-inch water main. (Completion by 7/02) DC

        Working hours will be from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and generally from 7:30 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. Road planing and other noisy work will be performed during the day and asphalt resurfacing will be done at night.

        No more than two lanes will be closed at any one time during the day to minimize traffic disruptions.

        The project hotline is 479-7952 and information on the project will be available on the City and County of Honolulu website.

         Bus lanes will be installed one block at a time.  Affected bus stops will be temporarily moved to an adjacent site for the safety of bus passengers.

Kailua:     Kailua Road/Kalaheo Avenue sewer line rehabilitation and repair on Kailua Road near the intersection on Kalaheo Avenue and on Kalaheo Avenue between Kaikea Place and White Sands Place. (Estimated completion date, August 2001).

                 Install water main along Kaha Street and Loop, Kaimake Loop and Kaipiha Street. (Completion by 9/01) WS

                  Kainui Drive Trunk Sewer will be rehabilitated along Kainui Drive between Oneawa Street and Kalaheo Avenue. (Completion by 10/01) DC

                   Keolu Hamakua Traffic Safety Project, Phase I:  Construct a raised median, concrete sidewalks and curb ramps. (Estimated completion date, August 21, 2001). 

Kaimuki: Reconstruction of Streets: Install 12 and 8 BWS water mains on Alencastre Street between St. Louis Drive and Felix Street. Reconstruct roadway pavement and base, curbs, gutters, sidewalks and driveways. Adjust manhole frames and covers, street monument covers and utility boxes to finish grade. Install street striping and raise pavement markings. (Completion by 2/02) DC

Kaneohe: A 42-inch water main with fire hydrants is being placed along Kahekili Highway from Ahuimanu Road to Haiku Road and from Kulukeoe Street to Likelike Highway, Likelike Highway from Kahekili Highway to Kamehameha Highway. (Completion by 6/8/02) WS

Install water mains along Yacht Club Street, Keoe Way and Place. (Completion by 8/01) WS

Maili: Install water mains Manuaihue Street and Place, Manuoioi Place, Heleuma Street, Okokomo Street and Okohola Street. (Completion by 9/01) WS

Maunawili: Install a 16-inch water main and fire hydrants along Auloa Road from Castle Junction to near Lunaai Street. (Completion by 10/01) WS

Wahiawa: Moala Place drainage improvements to include adjusting pavement grade along California Avenue and into Moala Place. (Completion by 8/01) DC

Waialua: Install water lines and related equipment along Aikaula, Haona, Kanalu, Kuoha, Naluahi and Nauahi streets and Goodale Avenue. (Completion by 6/02) WS

Waianae: Rehabilitation of Mailiili and Puhawai roads. (Completion by 8/2/01) DC

Wilhelmina Rise: Install water mains under Maunahilu Place, Paula Drive, Puumalu Place and Paula Place. (Completion by 9/01) WS

OTHER

The mobile satellite city hall serving Hawaii Kai, Kaimuki and Waimanalo will be out of service until further notice. It needs major repairs.
