ROAD WORK, PARADES AND OTHER STREET ACTIVITIES

 

                 The departments of Facility Maintenance (FM) and Design & Construction (DC), and the Board of Water Supply (WS) have scheduled the following roadwork for the week of August 19, between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. unless otherwise noted. Estimated completion date is in parentheses.

New Projects:

University Area: Bicycle Access Route 13 - Dole Street from University Avenue to East-West Road: Eradicate existing pavement markings and install new markings and bicycle lane, including traffic loop detector. (Completion by 9/26/01) DC 

WAIPAHU: Reconstruction of Managers Drive to include irrigation and landscaping improvements.  (Completion by 2/8/02) DC

Continuing Projects:

Haleiwa: Install water lines and equipment along Haleiwa Road, Kaika Place, Nalimu Road, Naoiwi Lane, Niuula Road and Walikanahele Road. (Completion by 6/02) WS 

Honolulu: Punchbowl Street Improvements, Phase I: Reconstruct traffic island and relocate traffic signal light poles at Punchbowl Street and Beretania Street Intersection. Reconstruct gutter area and resurface and restripe Punchbowl Street between King Street and Beretania Street. (Completion by 9/01)

Phase 3: Widen the diamond head side of Punchbowl Street between Vineyard Boulevard and Lusitana Street (Completion by 9/01) DC

Phase 4: Widen both sides of Punchbowl Street between Vineyard Boulevard and Beretania Street. Some of the work is being done at night. (Completion by 9/01) DC

King Street Improvements, Austin Lane to Desha Lane: Construct curbs, sidewalks, driveways and curb ramps and install new street lighting system and plant street trees. (Completion by 11/01) DCM

          Reconstruct King Street from Liliha Street to River Street and Bethel Street to South Street. (The in between segment was done last year.) The North King Street section includes the replacement of a 24-inch water main. Work is also being done by GASPRO on North King Street near Liliha Street. (Completion by 7/02) DC

                    Working hours will be from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and generally from 7:30 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. Road planing and other noisy work will be performed during the day and asphalt resurfacing will be done at night.

                    No more than two lanes will be closed at any one time during the day to minimize traffic disruptions.

                    The project hotline is 479-7952 and information on the project will be available on the City and County of Honolulu website.

                     Bus lanes will be installed one block at a time. Affected bus stops will be temporarily moved to an adjacent site for the safety of bus passengers. 

Kailua: Kailua Road/Kalaheo Avenue sewer line rehabilitation and repair on Kailua Road near the intersection on Kalaheo Avenue (started delayed to 9/4) and on Kalaheo Avenue between Kaikea Place and White Sands Place. (Completion by 10/01) DC

            Install water main along Kaha Street and Loop, Kaimake Loop and Kaipiha Street. (Completion by 9/01) WS

            Kainui Drive Trunk Sewer will be rehabilitated along Kainui Drive between Oneawa Street and Kalaheo Avenue. (Completion by 10/01) DC

            Keolu Hamakua Traffic Safety Project I: Construct a raised median, concrete sidewalks and curb ramps. (Completion by 8/21/01) DC

 Kaimuki: Install 12 and 8 BWS water mains on Alencastre Street between St. Louis Drive and Felix Street. Reconstruct roadway pavement and base, curbs, gutters, sidewalks and driveways. Adjust manhole frames and covers, street monument covers and utility boxes to finish grade. Install street striping and raise pavement markings. (Completion by 2/02) DC 

Kaneohe: A 42-inch water main with fire hydrants is being placed along Kahekili Highway from Ahuimanu Road to Haiku Road and from Kulukeoe Street to Likelike Highway, Likelike Highway from Kahekili Highway to Kamehameha Highway. (Completion by 6/8/02) WS 

Maunawili: Install a 16-inch water main and fire hydrants along Auloa Road from Castle Junction to near Lunaai Street. (Completion by 10/01) WS 

Mililani: Rehabilitation of Meheula Parkway (Kamehameha Highway to Lanikuhana): Reconstruction of curbs, gutters, and pavement, Kuahelani Avenue (Meheula Parkway to Kamehameha Highway). (Completion by 1/6/02) DC 

Waialua: Install water lines and related equipment along Aikaula, Haona, Kanalu, Kuoha, Naluahi and Nauahi streets and Goodale Avenue. (Completion by 6/02) WS

August 18: Traffic will be stopped briefly around 2:30 p.m. on Kamehameha Highway fronting Kualoa Ranch for the triathlon contests to cross the road after their ocean swim. 

August 26:  The Olomana Bike Race will start at 6:30 a.m. from the Maintenance Yard on Old Kalanianaole Highway going north, turn on Kalanianaole Highway, return via the other end of Old Kal. Hwy. and finish back at the yard.
