ROAD WORK, PARADES AND OTHER STREET ACTIVITIES

                 The departments of Facility Maintenance (FM) and Design & Construction (DC), and the Board of Water Supply (WS) have scheduled the following roadwork for the week of September 30, between 8:30 a.m. and 3:30 p.m. unless otherwise noted. Estimated completion date is in parentheses.

New Projects:

Maunawili: Rehabilitate Auloa Road and Pulama Road. (Completion by 3/02) DC 

Moiliili: Install 8-inch water mains on (Completion by 7/02) WS

   Kaaha Street from Kapiolani Boulevard to Kaaloa Street;

   Kaaloa Street from Kaaha Street to Nakookoo Street;

   Nakookoo Street from Kahuna Lane to the end;

   Kahoaloha from Nakookoo Street to Kuulei Lane and

   Kahuna Lane. 

Puunui: Repave Waolani, Rooke and Puunui Avenues, Wyllie, Kauai and Hawaii Streets where water lines were recently installed. (Completion by 11/01) WS 

Sunset Beach: Install 12-inch to 16-inch water main along Kamehameha Highway from Paumalu Place to Kahae Road. (Completion by 12/02) WS 

Continuing Projects:

Haleiwa: Install water lines and equipment along Haleiwa Road, Kaika Place, Nalimu Road, Naoiwi Lane, Niuula Road and Walikanahele Road. (Completion by 6/02) WS 

Honolulu: King Street Improvements, Austin Lane to Desha Lane: Construct curbs, sidewalks, driveways and curb ramps and install new street lighting system and plant street trees. (Completion by 11/01) DC

          Reconstruct King Street from Liliha Street to River Street and Bethel Street to South Street. (The in between segment was done last year.) The North King Street section includes the replacement of a 24-inch water main. Work is also being done by GASPRO on North King Street near Liliha Street. (Completion by 7/02) DC

                    Working hours will be from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and generally from 7:30 p.m. to 4:30 a.m. Road planing and other noisy work will be performed during the day and asphalt resurfacing will be done at night.

                    No more than two lanes will be closed at any one time during the day to minimize traffic disruptions.

                    The project hotline is 479-7952 and information on the project will be available on the City and County of Honolulu website.

                     Bus lanes will be installed one block at a time. Affected bus stops will be temporarily moved to an adjacent site for the safety of bus passengers.

Renovation of streets in Puunui neighborhood: Waolani Avenue, Rooke Avenue, Puunui Avenue, Hawaii Street, Kauai Street, Maui Street and Wyllie Street. (Completion by 8/1/02) DC  

Kahala: Renovation of Kealahou Street between Kalanianaole Highway and Muolea Place and new curbs and gutters for Pahoa Avenue between Kokohead and 18th avenues. (Completion by 8/02) DC 

Kailua: Kainui Drive Trunk Sewer will be rehabilitated along Kainui Drive between Oneawa Street and Kalaheo Avenue. (Completion by 10/01) DC 

Kaimuki: Install 12 and 8 BWS water mains on Alencastre Street between St. Louis Drive and Felix Street. Reconstruct roadway pavement and base, curbs, gutters, sidewalks and driveways. Adjust manhole frames and covers, street monument covers and utility boxes to finish grade. Install street striping and raise pavement markings. (Completion by 2/02) DC 

Kalihi: Install sewer lines along Bannister Street and Place and Laumaka Street. (Completion by 1/02) DC 

Kaneohe: A 42-inch water main with fire hydrants is being placed along Kahekili Highway from Ahuimanu Road to Haiku Road and from Kulukeoe Street to Likelike Highway, Likelike Highway from Kahekili Highway to Kamehameha Highway. (Completion by 6/8/02) WS 

Manoa: Rehabilitation of sewer line along Kuahea Street between Waiomao Road and Kuahea Place. (Completion by 1/02) DC 

Maunawili: Install a 16-inch water main and fire hydrants along Auloa Road from Castle Junction to near Lunaai Street. (Completion by 10/01) WS 

Mililani: Rehabilitation of Meheula Parkway (Kamehameha Highway to Lanikuhana): Reconstruction of curbs, gutters, and pavement, Kuahelani Avenue (Meheula Parkway to Kamehameha Highway). (Completion by 1/6/02) DC 

Waialua: Install water lines and related equipment along Aikaula, Haona, Kanalu, Kuoha, Naluahi and Nauahi streets and Goodale Avenue. (Completion by 6/02) WS 

WAIPAHU: Reconstruction of Managers Drive to include irrigation and landscaping improvements. (Completion by 2/8/02) DC

The event is expected to have 150+ walkers.  It will start at FSFGP Church, to Salt Lake Blvd,  to Arizona Rd., to Catlin Rd., to Nimitz Hwy., to Valkenburgh St., to Radford Dr., to Salt Lake Blvd. end at FSFGP Church.  Contact: Mr. Lulu 739-4728

STAND UP FOR AMERICA PARADE/RALLY sponsored by Stand Up for America. The event is expected to have 5,000 marchers, 20 vehicles, 6 bands. Traffic will be diverted about 8 am. It will start at Ala Moana Park, to Ala Moana Blvd., to Kalakaua Ave., to Monsarrat Ave.,  end at Waikiki Shell Parking Lot. Contact: Mike Gabbard  537-6231

WINDWARD HO'OLAULEA/STREET FEST sponsored by City & County of Honolulu. The event is expected to have 5,000+ participants.  Traffic will be diverted at 11:30 am for setup. The event will close: 1)Kawa St., all lanes from Mehana St. to Kahuipa St., 2)Mehana St., all lanes from Kamehameha Hwy to Dead End.  Contact: Danny Smith 527-5761
