The City will host the Second Regional Island-wide Vision Meeting on Saturday (Aug. 4) from 8:30 a.m. to noon at the Hawaii Convention Center.

Keynote speaker will be Evan S. Dobelle, president of the University of Hawaii. Also speaking will be Alan Nemiroff, president of the American Institute of Architects, Honolulu Chapter, who will introduce Paperless Urban Design Technology, new digital software for the vision groups that will enable them to "see" and design the future of their communities.

Everyone is welcome to attend this meeting. Participants need not be a member of one of the 19 vision groups on Oahu. New members will be directed to the vision group representing their neighborhood.

During the morning session, vision participants will share "photo" homework assigned at the April 21 vision meeting and talk about proposed regional vision projects.

Sustainability elements, first introduced by Mayor Jeremy Harris at the last vision meeting---Economy, Environment, Land Use, Transportation and Resources--will also be on the agenda. “The simplest definition of sustainability is making decisions as if your grandchildren’s lives depended on them,” Mayor Harris said.

Parking at the convention center will be free and light refreshments will be served.
