NEWS ADVISORY Department of Customer Services Public Communications Division City & County of Honolulu 523-4385 JULY 9, 2002 AYSO NATIONAL GAMES OPEN TONIGHT The 2002 American Youth Soccer Organization (AYSO) Games open tonight with colorful ceremonies and a fireworks display at the City’s Waipio Soccer Stadium beginning at 5:30 p.m. Entertainment by the Polynesian Cultural Center will be provided from 5:30 to 6:00 p.m. At 6:00 p.m., the participating teams and referees will march into the stadium. Music will be provided by the Royal Hawaiian Band. The formal program, from 7:00 to 7:30 p.m., will feature the release of five dozen red, white and blue pigeons and the introduction of various dignitaries, including Mayor Jeremy Harris, legislative and City Council leaders, and representatives of AYSO, including Joel Mark, national president. The show will close with entertainment by the Polynesian Cultural Center and a fireworks show sponsored by Meadow Gold Dairies. NOTE TO MEDIA: Parking is available in Lot E or Lot D, which are located near the stadium at the very end of the entry road to the Waipio Soccer Complex. Honolulu Mayor Jeremy Harris will also be available at 5:00 p.m. to make a special presentation to AYSO National President Joel Mark in appreciation of staging this major event in Honolulu. -30- |
