BRUNCH ON THE BEACH

Brunch on the Beach returns to Waikiki this Sunday (April 14, 2002).  Once again, Kalakaua Avenue at Kuhio Beach will become a delightful outdoor cafe for thousands who show up to savor delicious food at incredibly low prices and enjoy great entertainment.  And this Sunday’s Brunch will feature four new restaurants.

The event is scheduled from 9:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., but scrip sales will begin at 9:00 a.m. Some of the finest chefs on O`ahu will serve signature menu items.

“Brunch on the Beach is a fantastic event,” says Streng who participated in last month’s Brunch as a guest chef of Sheraton Hotels in Waikiki.  “We prepared 600 servings and sold out by 11:30!  The event brings so many local people to Waikiki and this greatly helps our visitor industry.  The Hawaii Prince is proud to be a part of Brunch and to be able to fundraise for the 24th Annual Charity Walk which will take place on Saturday, May 18, 2002.”

Launched in July 2001, Brunch on the Beach is an economic initiative to revitalize Waikiki.  It’s the City’s effort to draw local residents and visitors back to Oahu’s prime visitor destination, to rediscover the romance and charm of old Hawaii and infuse a tourist economy hard hit by a changing visitor market and the national tragedies of September 11.

Co-sponsored by the City and County of Honolulu and the Waikiki Improvement Association and presented one Sunday a month, future Brunch on the Beach dates for the current fiscal year are May 19 and June 9.  Dates for FY2003 will be published shortly.

For more information, call 523-CITY or the Waikiki Improvement Association at 923-1094.
