Public Information Division Department of Customer Services City & County of Honolulu 523-4385 (www.co.honolulu.hi.us/) FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASEJUNE 19, 2002 CAREGIVER’S CONFERENCE TO BE HELD The City’s Elderly Affairs Division, AARP and HMSA will be co-hosting Caring For Family, Caring For Yourself: A Caregiver’s Conference at the Sheraton Waikiki Resort on Saturday, July 20, 2002, from 8:00 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. The conference offers the family caregiver practical, up-to-date resources and information. Space is limited. Registrations are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Registration fee for family and volunteer caregivers is $25 ($30 after July 12); the fee for paid caregivers is $50 ($55 after July 12). There will be no registration on the day of the conference. Fees include the day’s workshops, luncheon, refreshments, and resource exhibits. Respite for caregivers is available by contacting Catholic Charities Elderly Services at 595-0077 and the Honolulu Gerontology Program at 543-8405. The conference will feature dynamic speakers sharing their expertise from such fields as medicine, social work, occupational and physical therapy, public health and law. Twenty-one concurrent sessions will be offered throughout the day. The conference is designed so that caregivers can choose the three most helpful sessions for their situations. Sessions include: “Preventing Caregiver Burnout,” “Respite Options,” “Understanding the Dying and Grieving Process,” “Popo’s Pill Problems,” “Coping with Behavior in Dementia,” “Legal Issues in Caregiving,” “S.O.S: Stretch or Stress,” “Tips and Tools for Easier Home Care,” and many more.
