City workers from the Department of Parks and Recreation, Urban Forestry Division, and Maintenance Support Services brought down a 65-foot Norfolk Pine at 9 a.m. today from the Maka’unulau Community Park in Mililani.  Officials estimate the weight of the tree at eight tons.

The harvesting was completed at 10 a.m., after which the tree was anchored on the city’s low-bed truck and hauled 20 miles to the Alapai Bus Facility across of Honolulu Hale.  Anchors and braces to secure the tree will be fastened at the bus yard before the tree is planted.

The installation of the tree will take place on Thursday, November 21 at 11 a.m. on the front lawn of City Hall.
