            Kailua Beach Park, acclaimed as one of the world’s most beautiful beaches, will host the first “traveling” Sunset on the Beach this Saturday and Sunday, January 26 and 27, from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m.


            Co-sponsored by the Kailua Chamber of Commerce, Radio Stations KCCN FM100 AND Oldies 107.9, News 8 and K5, the event will showcase Kailua Town – from restaurants, businesses and entertainers to community organizations.  It is expected to draw thousands into the park this weekend.


            The day will begin at 10:00 a.m. with an Open Market featuring more than 50 vendors.  Also commencing at 10:00 a.m. on the main stage is entertainment by community members such as Rose Alflor and Wiki Waki Woo, demonstrations by Radio Shack and Bishaw’s Academy Demo Team, and a beachwear contest.


            Food stations by Kailua’s finest restaurants open in the afternoon, and from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m., deejays from radio stations KRATER (Saturday) and Oldies107.9 (Sunday) will take the stage with live entertainment by Roots Rockaz, Cool Change, Brimstone/The Chief, and Mehana Souza, great contests and prizes.


            Attendees may choose from a wide selection of mouth-watering entrees from Windward area restaurants, including Lucy’s Grille & Bar, Otaru, Saeng’s Thai Cuisine, Diane’s Best Seafood, Pinky’s Pupu Bar & Grill, Cisco’s Cantina, Papa John’s Pizza, Lanikai Juice, Flyin’ Hawaiian Hot Dog Hut, and Paniolo Popcorn.  Refreshment Tents by Zippy’s, Cinnamon and others will also be available next to the Open Market near the Boat Ramp Parking Lot.


            On Saturday, the featured movie will be the new and revised “Planet of the Apes,” and on Sunday, join John Travolta, Olivia-Newton John and the Rydell High school cast in “Grease” will highlight the evening.  All movies will be shown on a giant 30’ screen at approximately 6:15 p.m., following the KCCN FM100 and Oldies 107.9 stage entertainment.


            Other activities such as a swimwear contest, arts and crafts, “Shop Kailua Town Raffle” are also planned.


            Free trolley shuttles will connect public parking lots to Kailua Beach Park.  Stops include Lanikai Elementary School, Kailua Intermediate School, Kailua Elementary School, Kailua Shopping Center, and Kailua Beach Park.  Each passenger will receive a Kailua Goodie Bag filled with coupons, raffle forms and other goodies, and is encouraged to explore Kailua Town and its unique variety of shops prior to attending the Kailua Sunset on the Beach.
