NEWS RELEASE Public Communications Division FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
May 2, 2002 MAJOR ROADWORK BEGINS MONDAY IN KAIMUKI
The City and County of Honolulu, Department of Transportation Services is advising motorists that roadway reconstruction for the first phase of the Kaimuki Master Plan Projects is planned on Waialae Avenue between Sierra Drive and Koko Head Avenue beginning Monday, May 6, 2002. Lane Closures will last for approximately five weeks. During this five-week period, one of the four lanes on Waialae Avenue between Sierra Drive and Koko Head Avenue will be closed 24 hours-a-day. During daytime construction hours, 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., a second adjacent lane will also be closed to accommodate construction equipment. Coning for the construction will sometimes extend to 10th Avenue and to 13th Avenue. During the morning and afternoon peak hours contra-flow, coning will be provided as needed to facilitate traffic flow because of the one lane being closed. However, the Department of Transportation Services strongly recommends that motorists use alternate routes whenever possible. For more information, please call the project hotline at 734-8690. -30- |
