WASTEWATER SPILL IN KALIHI STOPPED

Grease and hand towels clogged a 10-inch sewer line, causing wastewater to back up and overflow a manhole in Kalihi this morning (December 30).

A city crew arrived on the scene at 1260 Richard Lane at 10:14 a.m. and stopped the spill at 10:40 a.m.  The crew witnessed an estimated 1,040 gallons spilling into Kalihi Stream nearby.

Warning signs have been posted along affected areas of the stream and stream waters are being sampled for contamination.  The State Department of Health has been notified of the incident.
