FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE (MAY 21, 2002)
STUDENTS’ CIVIC LESSONS YIELD PLAY EQUIPMENT

Two years ago, sixth graders Daisy Lee Carinio, Lindsey Tolentino and Melissa Sterlachi  embarked on a challenging mission to acquire much needed playground equipment for the students at Kapunahala Elementary School at

45-828 Anoi Road in Kaneohe.

What began as a daunting task, gathering signatures for a petition and meeting with Mayor Jeremy Harris, will conclude with a blessing and ceremony tomorrow morning (Wednesday) at 9:30 a.m. when their play equipment and ADA walkways will be officially dedicated to the public.

The ceremony will be attended by Mayor Harris, department directors, school officials, the girls’ parents and district representatives.
