NEWS RELEASE Public Communications Division Department of Customer Services City & County of Honolulu 523-4385 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE June 12, 2002 KANEOHE BAY SEWAGE SPILL A City crew is working to stop a sewage spill into Kaneohe Bay which resulted from a broken 18-inch sewer line at 44-653 C Kaneohe Bay Drive. The crew pinpointed the break at 11:30 a.m. today (June 12) in the concrete pipe, which runs from Aumoana Place to the Kaneohe Bay Pump Station Number 2. Workers are in the process of isolating and bypassing the broken section of pipe. The amount of sewage spilled is not yet determined. Warning signs have been posted along the affected portion of Kaneohe Bay. The State Department of Health has been notified of the incident. IMPORTANT UPDATE: SEWAGE SPILL WAS STOPPED BY 4:00 P.M. TODAY (JUNE 12). WORKERS ARE IN THE PROCESS OF BYPASSING THE BROKEN SEGMENT OF THE SEWER LINE. -30- |
