WASTEWATER SPILL INTO NUUANU STREAM:   UPDATE

           Cracks in a 10-inch sewer line caused raw wastewater to leak and spill into Nuuanu Stream yesterday (October 28).  The volume and duration of the spill is not known. 

           The Department of Environmental Services was notified of the situation at about 7:00 a.m. and responded at 8:15 a.m. yesterday.  The spill, located near the intersection of Kukui Street and College Walk in Nuuanu, was secured and repairs to the sewer line completed by 2:30 a.m. this morning (October 29).

           Warning signs were posted along the stream.  Affected waters have been sampled for laboratory analysis.

            The State Department of Health was notified of the incident.
