FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WASTEWATER SPILL INTO NUUANU STREAM Near the intersection of College Walk and Kukui Street, a collapse of a 20-foot section (downstream of spill that occurred on October 28) and two breaks (upstream of spill that occurred on October 28) in a 10-inch sewer line caused raw wastewater to leak and spill into Nuuanu Stream today (October 30). The volume and duration of the spill is not known as City crews are still repairing the sewer line. The Department of Environmental Services discovered the spill at about 8:00 a.m. this morning while flushing a repaired sewer line with potable water. The spill is ongoing. Warning signs are posted along the stream. Affected waters have been sampled for laboratory analysis. The State Department of Health was notified of the incident. -30-
