NEW SKATEPARK OPENS IN MILILANI

The City will open its first skateboard park in Central Oahu when it officially dedicates the Mililani District Park Skatepark Facility on Saturday, February 16, 2002 at 10 a.m.    The Grand Opening festivities include a formal blessing, remarks by Mayor Jeremy Harris and Councilmember Rene Mansho, and skateboard demonstrations performed by the APB Team from the Association of Skateboarders Hawaii (ASH).

The 10,000 square foot facility was constructed by PER, Inc. and designed by Architects Pacific, Inc., in consultation with local skateboarder Chad Hyakumoto.   The city plans to add lighting to the facility at a later date.

Other skateboard facilities currently in the process of construction and anticipated to open within the next month include Keolu Hills Neighborhood Park Skatepark Facility, scheduled to open the following week, and Aala Park Skatepark Facility, anticipated to be completed in March.  The City also plans to open other facilities in Kaneohe, Kailua, North Shore, Wahiawa, Manana, and Kalihi.
