Department of Customer Services City & County of Honolulu 523-4385 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: March 5, 2002 Take advantage of the glorious weather this weekend and join thousands of residents and visitors at “Sunset on the Beach” Saturday and Sunday, March 9 and 10 from 4:30 to 9 p.m.. One of the most innovative programs in Hawaii, “Sunset” provides an opportunity to enjoy the beautiful Hawaiian sunset from Queen’s Surf Beach, at the end of world-famous Waikiki beach. It’s a great way to relax with a cool beverage, pupus, and live entertainment from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. This weekend, radio stations Oldies 107.9 and KINE will feature popular groups while deejays engage the audience in interesting contests with fun prizes. Films this weekend are “Star Trek: Insurrection” on Saturday, and “The Sting” on Sunday. Movies begin at 7 p.m. and are shown on the giant 30-foot screen with Diamond Head in the backdrop. Whether you choose to picnic on the beach or dine on tables set up on the Kapahulu pier, choose from a wide menu selection – from pizzas and hot dogs to chefs’ signature plates at very special prices. Restaurants Auntie Pasto's, Ocean Steak House, Furusato's, Mr. Pizza, Royal Hawaiian Hot Dog, Ghirardelli Ice Cream, Simply Ono Foods & Popcorn and Beach House Beverage Cart will feature their finest. This week, Sunset on the Beach is sponsored by the City & County of Honolulu, Hawaii Restaurant Association, Waikiki Improvement Association, News 8, K5 The Home Team, KINE and Oldies 107.9.
