FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: May 14, 2002
Take advantage of the glorious weather projected for this weekend and join thousands of residents and visitors at “Sunset on the Beach” Saturday and Sunday, May 18 and 19, from 4:00 to 9 p.m. Bring the entire family and check into one of the hotels in Waikiki, as the City hosts a fun-filled weekend at Queen’s Surf Beach, at the corner of Kalakaua and Kapahulu Avenues.
The festivities begin at 4 p.m. with recorded Hawaiian music. Then at 4:30 p.m., KRATER FM 100 starts things off with live entertainment until 6:30 p.m., featuring popular groups and deejays engaging the audience in interesting contests and prizes. Relax and sample a king’s ransom of gourmet treats, from exotic pupus to elegant entrees and tempting desserts. Complete the perfect evening under a canopy of stars, watching your favorite movie on a giant 30-foot screen with beautiful Diamond Head in the background.
On Saturday, May 18, Michael Douglas and Kathleen Turner star in the action-packed romantic comedy, “Romancing the Stone,” dramatized by their escapades through the jungles in South America. On Sunday, May 19, sit back and enjoy “Good Will Hunting,” and the Academy award performances of Robin Williams, Ben Affleck and Matt Damon as a “typical” 21-year old mathematical genius who finally comes to terms with his brilliance. All movies begin at 7 p.m.
Whether you choose to picnic on the beach or dine on tables set up on the Kapahulu pier, choose from a wide menu selection – from pizzas and hot dogs to chefs’ signature plates at very special prices. Restaurants such as Royal Hawaiian Hot Dog, Suekko, Seafood Village, Ghirardelli Ice Cream, Ocean Seafood and Steak House, Nutty Hawaiian, Simply Ono Food & Popcorn, Davey Jones Ribs and Mr. Pizza.
