BEACH INJURY PREVENTION EVENT TO BE HELD
The public is invited to attend a unique education event from 9:00 a.m. to
2:00 p.m. this Saturday (June 22) at Sandy Beach, to learn from water experts how to prevent spinal and head injuries.
An estimated 2,000 people suffer spinal or head injuries in Hawaii each year and many of the accidents occur at Sandy Beach. Saturday’s program, Think First Hawaii Ocean Safety Day, is the first of its kind to educate people about the risks of these injuries.
The event will feature demonstrations by ocean safety and emergency medical personnel, prize drawings, children’s activities, plus video and live presentations. The event sponsors are the City and County of Honolulu Ocean Safety and Emergency Medical Services Division, the Hawaii Lifeguard Association, the Queen’s Medical Center Neuroscience Institute and the Pilots Club of Downtown Honolulu.
The Pilots Club has received a $10,000 grant from the Weinberg Foundation and has designated the Think First Hawaii project to receive this funding.
For more information on the project and event, contact Ralph Goto at 922-3888.
(NOTICE TO NEWS MEDIA: PHOTO OPPORTUNITIES OF C-SPINE EXTRACTIONS AND IMMOBILIZATION DEMONSTRATIONS WILL BE AVAILABLE SATURDAY FROM 10:30 A.M. TO 11:30 A.M. AND 12:30 A.M. TO 1:30 P.M.)
