FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
April 21, 2003

To coincide with Earth Day, the City and County of Honolulu, the Hawaii Department of Transportation Services and its partners are commencing Honolulu’s inaugural Car Free Day with a car free rally on April 23, from noon to 2:30 p.m., at Bishop Square’s Tamarind Park.

The public is urged to not only go to the rally, but to go to work that day by means other than a personal vehicle, including taking the bus, riding in a Vanpool, catching a trolley, biking, or walking.  By cutting down on driving, the public will be cutting down on pollution, natural resource consumption and energy use, all while improving public health and saving money.

For more information on Car Free Day or transportation alternatives, contact the city at 523-4125.
