CITY ENVIRONMENTAL DIRECTOR RESPONDS TO FINE BY STATE

Frank Doyle, director, Department of Environmental Services, issued the following statement today in response to the Department of Health imposing a fine on the City:

“We acted responsibly and took action as soon as we were informed of the problem. We removed all the white goods, cleaned up the area and also conducted soil and blood tests and found nothing that put residents and employees at a health risk.

“We are disappointed that the State Department of Health has imposed this fine based on an unauthorized and irresponsible act of one City employee. We are working with the DOH to complete all aspects of the cleanup and hope they will wave the fine especially since the City has been helping the State with its own environmental issues.”
