GREASE CAUSES SEWAGE SPILL IN LILIHA

Grease clogging an 8-inch sewer line in Liliha caused an estimated 1,200 gallons of raw sewage to back out of a manhole and spill into Nuuanu Stream before a City crew cleared the line last night (Tuesday, July 15).

The crew responded to the incident at 1340 Liliha Street at 7:05 p.m. and stopped the spill within a half-hour.   The immediate area was then cleaned and disinfected. Warning signs were posted along affected parts of Nuuanu Stream.

The State Department of Health was notified of the incident.
