FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
PARTIALLY TREATED WASTEWATER DISCHARGED INTO LAKE WILSON
A faulty UV water level sensor at the Wahiawa Wastewater Treatment Facility caused intermittent shutdown of the facility’s disinfecting unit for 17 minutes between 9:30 and 11:00 a.m. today. This resulted in the discharge into Lake Wilson of about 34,000 gallons of effluent that had undergone tertiary treatment but not the final ultraviolet disinfection.
The Department of Health has been notified and bacteria levels are being tested. The situation is being monitored. Signs have been posted in the area.
