UN-DISINFECTED WASTEWATER DISCHARGED INTO LAKE WILSON

A faulty UV water level sensor at the Wahiawa Wastewater Treatment Facility caused a shutdown of the facility’s disinfecting unit, resulting in a discharge of 48,000 gallons of un-disinfected tertiary treated wastewater into Lake Wilson last night.  The intermittent discharge of un-disinfected wastewater occurred at about 10:05 p.m. and ended at 11 p.m.

The Department of Health has been notified and bacteria levels are currently being tested.  The situation will be monitored until the levels are brought down to safety standards.  Signs have been posted in the area.

For more information contact Ferd Jaramilla at the City’s Department of Environmental Services, 692-5115 or Ross Tanimoto, 692-5371.
