MEMORIAL DAY POSTER CONTEST WINNERS

 

Mayor Jeremy Harris presented awards to the winners of the Student Memorial Day Poster Contest in his office on May 14.  The winning posters are exhibited on the third floor of Honolulu Hale through May 29.  The winners in each grade category are as follows:

 

Grades K-4

1st Place:            Julia Tedrowe, Grade 3, Hokulani Elementary

2nd Place:            Vera Chang, Grade 4,         Ala Wai Elementary

3rd Place:            Maleko Leiwalo, Grade 1, Kahakai-Kona Elementary

 

Grades 5-8

1st Place:            Gian Gizelle Alconcel, Grade 8, Kalakaua Middle

2nd Place:            Christopher Badua, Grade 8, Kalakaua Middle

3rd Place:            Princess Edades, Grade 7, Kalakaua Middle

 

Grades 9-12

1st Place:            Natasha L. Dalumpinis Morlock, Grade 12, Waialua High

2nd Place:            Adam Mendez-Ancheta, Grade 12, Kamehameha

3rd Place:            Mahealani Rule, Grade 10, Kapolei High

 

            All winners received a certificate, souvenir key chain and flag, roundtrip airline coupon to the island of their choice (donated by Aloha Airlines), gift certificate (donated by Zippy’s), and a coupon (donated by Ocean Resort/Queen Kapiolani Hotels).

The winners were chosen from among 305 entries from public and private schools.  The artwork of the first place winners will appear on posters encouraging the public to provide lei to decorate graves at the National Cemetery of the Pacific for the Memorial Day Service.
