NEW TRANSIT CENTER TO BE DEDICATED IN KAPOLEI The new Kapolei Transit Center will be dedicated on Thursday, July 3, 2003 at 12 noon. The center is located at 900 Kamokila Boulevard. U.S. Senator Daniel K. Inouye will be among the guests at the dedication. Cheryl Soon, director, City Department of Transportation Services, said that transit operations at this center will officially begin at 5:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 8, 2003. The Kapolei Transit Center, which is part of the ongoing hub-and-spoke conversion, has nine bus bays, covered waiting areas, restroom facilities, pay telephones, drinking fountains and clear directional graphics indicating bus locations by route. The Kapolei Transit Center will be serviced by CountryExpress! Route C (Honolulu, Kapolei, Makaha); Routes 40/40A (Honolulu-Makaha); Route 41 (Kapolei-Ewa Beach); and Shuttle Routes 411, 412, 413, and 414 (Makakilo Heights, Panana Street, Campbell Industrial Park, Makakilo/Palahia/Kapolei). The Kapolei Transit Center will create easy and safe transferring between buses. Buses will be within a few feet of each other on opposite sides of the platform. The buses will also arrive within minutes of each other, eliminating long wait times. -30- |
