OKINAWAN FESTIVAL JOINS SUNSET ON THE BEACH
The Hawaii United Okinawa Association will be sponsoring Sunset on the Beach this weekend, Saturday, August 30 and Sunday, August 31, in conjunction with the annual Okinawan Festival at Kapiolani Park. The event kicks off the Worldwide Uchinanchu Conference held August 29 through September 2.
The fun begins at 4 p.m. with live entertainment. On Saturday, join Hawaiian 105 KINE deejays with Tiki Taboo and Nightlife performing. Sunday, Oldies 107.9 present Huilili and Rolando Sanches and Salsa Hawaii.
On Sunday, the Okinawan Festival will provide a special Taiko drum performance at 7 p.m. before the evening’s feature film.
Blockbuster movies follow at 7:30 p.m. On Saturday, it’s “Bringing Down The House,” with Queen Latifah and Steve Martin. This hilarious comedy portrays a most unlikely couple whose love conquers all obstacles.
On Sunday, it’s the Oscar winning musical, “Chicago,” with an all-star cast that includes Catherine Zeta-Jones, Queen Latifah, Renee Zellwegger and Richard Gere.
Whether you choose to dine on the beach or on the Kapahulu pier, selections include a wide variety of appetizers and entrees from popular restaurants. This weekend, Sunset on the Beach presents Leo’s Greek Taverna, Trellises Restaurant, Compadres Bar & Grill, Time 2 Grind, Oliveneo’s, Bale French Sandwich & Restaurant, Royal Hawaiian Hot Dog & Shave Ice, Popcorn Express and Pizza Hut.
Thirty-two crafters from the Hawaii Handcrafters and Artists Alliance will offer Made In Hawaii products from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on both Saturday and Sunday.
In addition to the Hawaii United Okinawa Association, Sunset on the Beach is co-sponsored by Hawaii Tourism Authority, the Waikiki Improvement Association, the City and County of Honolulu, KHNL Hawaii News 8, Hawaiian 105 KINE and Oldies 107.9.
